A Class Test
Piyush was the smartest student in his class. He always topped every test and was praised by all the teachers. His classmates often sought his help, but Piyush had become so proud of his intelligence that he looked down on others.
One day, their teacher, Mrs. Sharma, announced a surprise math test. Piyush smirked. "This is going to be a piece of cake," he whispered to his friends. "I don’t even need to revise!"
While other students quickly opened their notebooks to review formulas, Piyush leaned back in his chair, confident he would ace the test.
When the test began, Piyush breezed through the first few questions. But as he turned the page, he saw a series of challenging problems he hadn’t practiced before. His heart sank. He realized these were the advanced-level questions Mrs. Sharma had taught last week—questions Piyush had ignored, thinking he already knew everything.
As the minutes ticked by, Piyush struggled. He glanced around and saw his classmates writing diligently. Panic set in. For the first time, Piyush felt unprepared and helpless.
When the test was over, Piyush handed in his paper, knowing he hadn’t done well. A few days later, the results were announced. To everyone’s shock, Rahul hadn’t topped the test—his friend Aditi had.
Mrs. Sharma smiled kindly at Piyush and said, "Piyush, intelligence is important, but so is humility and preparation. Overconfidence can often lead to failure."
Piyush nodded, ashamed of his pride. From that day, he started studying with sincerity and helping his classmates without looking down on them.
