The Mango Tree
In a quiet little village, nestled between rolling hills and lush green fields, stood a magnificent old mango tree. It was the pride of the village, its thick branches offering shade to weary travelers and its golden fruits delighting the children. The villagers believed that the tree was a gift from nature, blessing them with sweet mangoes year after year.
Among the villagers was a young boy named Rohan. He loved the mango tree more than anything else. Every summer, he would eagerly wait for the mangoes to ripen, climbing the tree to pluck the juiciest ones. He would sit under its shade, enjoying the fruit while listening to the birds chirping above.
One day, a rich businessman from the city visited the village. He saw the mango tree and realized its commercial value. He approached the village chief and offered a large sum of money to buy the tree. "With this money, you can build better houses and roads," he tempted them.
The villagers were divided. Some thought it was a great opportunity, while others, like Rohan, were heartbroken at the thought of losing their beloved tree. Rohan pleaded with the village elders, "This tree gives us shade, fruit, and happiness. How can we sell it for money?"
Despite his protests, the majority of the villagers agreed to the deal. The businessman planned to cut down the tree and sell its wood for a high price. The next morning, workers arrived with axes to chop it down. Seeing this, Rohan couldn’t bear the thought of losing the tree. He ran to the village chief and begged him one last time.
"Please, give me one chance to prove that this tree is worth more than money," Rohan implored.
The chief, moved by his determination, agreed. Rohan quickly gathered the villagers and explained his plan. "Instead of cutting the tree, we can take care of it and sell its mangoes every year. The money we earn will be far greater than what we are getting now."
The villagers realized the wisdom in his words. They decided to reject the businessman’s offer and keep the tree. Over the years, the mango tree continued to bear fruit, providing food and income to many families. The village prospered, and the tree remained a symbol of unity and wisdom.
From that day on, the villagers understood the value of nature and the importance of preserving what truly mattered. And under the shade of the great mango tree, Rohan smiled, knowing he had saved something priceless.
Moral of the Story:
True wealth lies not in money, but in the resources that sustain us. Nature is a gift that should be cherished and preserved for future generations.
