Once upon a time, there was a farmer who owned a donkey and a dog. The donkey worked hard every day, carrying heavy loads and plowing fields, while the dog spent his days lounging and wagging his tail around the farmer.
One evening, the donkey, exhausted from his hard day's labor, noticed the dog being pampered by the farmer. The farmer fed the dog scraps from his meal and played with him, stroking his fur and speaking kind words. The donkey grew jealous and thought, Why does the dog, who does no work, get all the affection? I am the one who works tirelessly from morning till night, yet I receive no such kindness.
The donkey decided to try and behave like the dog. The next morning, when the farmer came to check on the animals, the donkey brayed loudly, jumped around, and even tried to wag his tail. He approached the farmer and attempted to put his hoof on the farmer’s lap, just as the dog did.
Startled and annoyed by the donkey’s strange behavior, the farmer shouted, "What are you doing, you foolish donkey?" The donkey ignored him and kept trying to imitate the dog. The farmer, losing his patience, picked up a stick and chased the donkey back to his stable.
As the donkey licked his wounds, he realized his mistake. I should stick to being myself. Each of us has our role and value, the donkey thought. Pretending to be something I am not only brought me trouble.
Moral of the Story:
Each individual has their unique strengths and roles in life. Be content with who you are and avoid envying others.
