The Golden Touch
Once upon a time, in a grand kingdom, there lived a wealthy and powerful king named Midas. He ruled over his land with wisdom and prosperity, but he had one weakness—his love for gold. King Midas was obsessed with wealth and desired nothing more than to accumulate more riches. Despite already possessing vast amounts of gold and treasures, he was never satisfied.
One day, as King Midas was admiring his treasure room, a mystical figure appeared before him. It was a divine being, who had come to reward the king for his good deeds. The being said, "O King Midas, I shall grant you one wish. Choose wisely."
Without hesitation, Midas eagerly replied, "I wish that everything I touch turns to gold!" The divine being warned him, "Are you sure? Gold is valuable, but it may not bring you true happiness." Midas, blinded by his greed, insisted, and so his wish was granted.
Overjoyed, Midas immediately tested his new power. He touched a table, and it turned into solid gold. He touched a chair, and it gleamed with golden brilliance. His excitement knew no bounds. He ran through his palace, turning everything into gold—his walls, his furniture, and even his garden statues.
However, his joy was short-lived. When he sat down to eat, he picked up a loaf of bread, and it turned to gold in his hands. He tried to drink water, but the moment his lips touched the cup, the liquid turned into gold, making it impossible to quench his thirst. Midas began to worry.
Just then, his beloved daughter, who adored him dearly, entered the room. She ran toward him with open arms, and before he could stop her, she hugged him. To his horror, his precious daughter turned into a golden statue. Midas cried out in despair. His heart was filled with regret as he realized the terrible consequences of his greed.
Helpless and filled with sorrow, Midas pleaded to the divine being to take away his curse. "Please, take back this gift! I have learned my lesson. Gold cannot replace love and happiness!" he cried.
Moved by Midas' genuine remorse, the divine being appeared once more. "King Midas, you have finally understood that wealth is meaningless without love and the simple joys of life. I shall grant you one last gift—to undo your wish. Go to the river and wash your hands in its waters. It will remove the golden touch."
Midas rushed to the river and did as he was told. As he washed his hands, he felt the power leave him. He hurried back to the palace and touched his daughter. To his great relief, she returned to life, warm and full of joy. He embraced her, tears of gratitude streaming down his face.
From that day on, Midas changed his ways. He learned to appreciate what he had and ruled his kingdom with kindness and wisdom, valuing love and relationships over material wealth.
Moral of the Story:
Greed can lead to misery. True happiness comes not from wealth, but from love, kindness, and the simple joys of life.
